Unit 8-Rehearsals
Rehearsals
Throughout the 4/5 weeks some of the skills I developed were communication, leadership, ideas towards the project and being able to put the creativity into my piece. For example, during rehearsals of one of my scenes 'Stone', I contributed towards the set of the scene and the angle we should be facing when on stage. I said that we should face at a 90 degree angle towards the audience whilst sitting on the bench because it would be more creative. Furthermore, with the 90 degree perspective angle, the audience have a clear view of the actors facial expressions portraying the strong emotions emerging.
Also, this idea would work better for our scene because the person we were bullying was standing in the top right of the stage.
The development of skills was amazing because as we processed through unit 8 I was able to see the development from a third person view by my teachers giving me constant feedback. I developed leadership by making sure people are in class and contacting people even if they aren't. I think communication was developed within me because I was able to freely speak to anyone. I talked to people in my class throughout the project and with most people the relationships were improved, which allowed me to improve my communication skills as I wasn't shy to speak to people. Another skill which touches onto communications, was creativity and contributing my ideas towards the scenes.
For example, one idea I gave towards my scene called, 'The child who didn't know what pain was', was a target of showing people what some teenagers do in their free time. My idea was to create the scene in a way of smoking cannabis with my partner Michael in the scene, with loud music playing at the start and at the end of the scene. Some audience members would see this as a familiar setting as perhaps they do the same in their free time outside of their working everyday life, to relax and feel free. I think this idea was very creative because we showed a hidden meaning of a child not being able to feel pain. However, the child was high on cannabis which seemed to the audience as if the drugs weren't allowing him to feel pain, when in reality there could be an actual pain inside of him that would cause him not to be able to feel pain physically.
For my additional roles, in the scene, 'Schizophrenic', I maintained the role of a therapist, where I had to deal with a mentally ill patient, and change my own dialect to reflect someone upper class. These binary opposites show the obvious contrast between the therapist and his patient, and the audience can particularly see this session as something to empathise with, maybe as it has affected them previously.
The overall effect of this role specifically targeted the audience and broadened their horizons in relation to the verbal manipulation the patient was experiencing.
As a result, I believed the show went very well, as the main effect was put into action with clear applause at the end. I assume this was due to the show's take on moral perspectives and how everyone sees things differently, forming one society. The audience's initial reaction was laughter, shock, and the feedback given was particularly beneficial. The direct feedback helped me to respond by building my acting skills further, as constructive criticism helps. In future, I will reuse the idea of different viewpoints from people as it shows collective variety, in addition, my own personal target is to focus on facial expressions, as they play a large role in communicating the story to the audience.
